Cruise FAQ
New to cruising or just have questions? Here are the honest answers to what travelers ask me most. Don’t see yours? Just ask me — I’m always happy to help.
Before You Book
Does it cost more to book through you?
Not a penny more. My services are completely free to you — I’m paid by the cruise line, and you pay the same fare you’d find on your own (often with extra perks I can add). You just get an expert in your corner.
When should I book my cruise?
For the best cabins and prices, 6–18 months ahead is ideal — especially for Alaska (book in winter/spring) and holiday sailings. The industry’s best deals come during “Wave Season” (January–March). I’ll help you time it right.
Which cruise line or ship is right for me?
That’s exactly what I’m here for. The “best” line depends on your budget, who’s traveling, and the experience you want. Tell me a little about your trip and I’ll match you to the right ship.
Money, Tipping & What’s Included
What’s included in my cruise fare?
Your fare typically covers your cabin, most meals, entertainment, pools, and onboard activities. Usually not included: gratuities, alcohol, specialty dining, shore excursions, spa, and wi-fi. I’ll walk you through it so there are no surprises.
Are gratuities included?
Most lines add daily gratuities (roughly $16–$20 per person, per day) to your onboard account, though some fares include them. I’ll tell you exactly what to expect for your sailing.
Do I need a drink package?
It depends on how much you’ll drink. They can be great value for some and a waste for others — I’ll help you run the math for your trip.
Onboard Life
Is there wi-fi on the ship?
Yes — nearly every ship offers wi-fi packages, and with new satellite internet it’s faster than ever. I’ll point you to the best plan for staying connected (or unplugging!).
Will I get seasick?
Most people are perfectly fine — modern ships have stabilizers and are remarkably smooth. If you’re worried, a midship, lower-deck cabin helps, and simple remedies work well. I can pick a cabin location that minimizes motion.
What is there to do onboard?
A lot! Pools, Broadway-style shows, specialty restaurants, kids and teen clubs, fitness centers, spas, and activities from morning to night. Cruise ships are floating resorts — there’s something for everyone.
Packing & Documents
Do I need a passport?
For most round-trip cruises from a U.S. port, you can technically sail with a birth certificate and government ID — but I strongly recommend a passport. It’s required for some itineraries and essential if you ever need to fly home from a foreign port.
What should I pack?
Casual daytime clothes, a few nicer outfits for dinner, swimwear, sunscreen, any medications, and chargers. Once you book, I send you a full packing list tailored to your cruise.
Families & Groups
Are cruises good for families and teens?
They’re fantastic — and matching families to the right ship is one of my specialties. The best ships have incredible kids and teen programs so everyone (including you!) gets a real vacation.
Can you book group or celebration cruises?
Absolutely. Family reunions, milestone birthdays, girlfriend getaways, group departures — I love putting these together and there are great perks for booking as a group.
